The Mater Hospital held a special Babies Reunion for some of the 40,000 babies who have been born at the Hospital since the Maternity unit was opened in February 1991. Hundreds of former Mater Babies and their parents - which included several leading Australian celebrities and politicians - were on hand at Luna Park to celebrate.
Famous for the quality of its staff, Mater Maternity is supported by the midwives, mothercraft nurses, lactation specialists and other specialised nurses with many of Sydney’s leading obstetricians having admitting rights at the Mater.
According to Robert Cusack, Executive Director of the Mater “This is a terrific milestone for the Mater. We have long received feedback from our community of patients and parents that our maternity services are without peer. However, to have so many members of our community embrace our invitation to come along is most gratifying. I wish Luna Park was bigger so we could have hosted even more.”
“While the surroundings and facilities within the Mater’s Maternity Unit are exceptional, ultimately it is the calibre of care extended to our patients, both in terms of professionalism and compassion, that is most important in determining the patient’s experience. I think that so many parents and former babies born at the Mater still associate so strongly with the Hospital is a testament to the care and sense of community that prevails in the Hospital,” Mr Cusack said.
