Mercy Foundation

Bringing our mission to life the Mercy Foundation is substantially funded by the Mater Hospital.

The Mercy Foundation believes that social inequality and poverty are morally unacceptable. The foundation acts in solidarity with those who are on the margins of society and focuses on long term solutions for social change so that all people can be active citizens and have equal access to resources.

Founded in 1990 in the spirit of the Sisters of Mercy founder, Catherine McAuley, the Mercy Foundation extends the work of the Sisters of Mercy in the areas of health, education, social welfare and justice. The foundation funds projects that:

  • Address causes of poverty and injustice.
  • Contribute to the creation of a worldview which promotes the interconnectedness of human beings and the natural world.
  • The Mercy Foundation works in partnership to bring about real change in people's lives.
