The Mater Lives Committee was formed, by a group of volunteer women, in 1985 to raise the profile of the new private hospital being built by the Sisters of Mercy. Since then due to their fundraising activities, which include an annual St Patrick’s Day lunch, card days and race days, the committee has contributed to the refurbishment of the hospital foyer, the Mater Healing Garden project and has purchased vital medical equipment for the hospital such as a central foetal monitoring unit for the Maternity Ward.
