Cardiovascular emergency service

CVES Hotline 1800 222 787

Patients* with urgent cardiovascular problems may be referred directly to the 24 hour Cardiovascular Emergency Service by their General Practitioner or Cardiovascular Specialist.

The on-call cardiologist is immediately contacted, a bed is made available and the patient can be admitted directly to the Intensive Care Unit, by private or ambulance transfer.

The service provides a direct, efficient tertiary referral to a private hospital for patients with acute cardiovascular issues including arrhythmias and heart failure, as well as those with acute vascular problems.

How CVES works

To access CVES, the doctor simply rings the hotline number 1800 222 787.

This connects directly to Intensive Care Unit medical staff who accept the patient* and assist in arranging transfers if needed.

The cardiovascular specialist on-call is immediately notified.

Upon arrival, the patient is brought directly to the Intensive Care Unit or Cardiac Care Unit for immediate assessment by Intensive Care Unit medical staff and specialists, bypassing any unnecessary delays inherent in casualty departments.

The Mater offers the full range of cardiovascular services, including all cardiac and vascular interventional procedures and coronary bypass surgery, with senior specialists servicing the on-call rosters. We have two catheter laboratories, including a newly built laboratory, on-call 24-hourly for emergencies.
