Certificate II Traineeship Program
(health support services)
The refugee traineeship program improves employment prospects for refugee and humanitarian job seekers. Taking in four new trainees each year at St Vincent’s Private and Mater Hospitals the one year program offers two six month rotations in the areas of food and housekeeping services.
Partnered with the Jesuit Refugee Service, who put forward candidates who have an interest in working in the roles on offer, the program provides a source of motivated employees who have been through a structured training program and may move from fixed term to full term employment. Ultimately, the refugee traineeship program highlights the benefits of a culturally diverse working environment whilst providing stability for families most in need.

A range of certificate III and IV courses are offered to staff from across St Vincents & Mater Health Sydney, including:

Graduate Certificate in Applied Ethics
Developed in partnership with the Australian Catholic University and the Plunkett Centre for Ethics, the Graduate Certificate in Applied Ethics directly relates to St Vincents & Mater Health Sydney and the application of moral philosophy to everyday situations. The graduate certificate assists in developing a deeper understanding of ethical issues in both professional and public contexts and provides an opportunity to develop knowledge of the sources and methods of ethical reasoning and the associated reflective processes.
Graduate Leadership Program
The unique program has been developed in conjunction with the University of New England and leads to the award of a Graduate Certificate in Management. For emerging leaders across St Vincents & Mater Health Sydney the content and structure of the course directly relates to the leadership and management practices of the organisation.
Looking at people, strategy, systems and practice in the context of St Vincents & Mater Health Sydney, the program enables participants to develop skills and knowledge to play a significant role in the future development and continuous improvement of the organisation.
The Graduate Certificate in Management furthers pathways to a Graduate Diploma and Masters of Business Administration.
Leadership Development
Introduction to Leadership (LDP1)
Committed to providing leadership development for managers, the program encompasses a wide range of opportunities. A one day seminar for new managers, the program ensures a greater knowledge of the organisation and its vision, mission, values, code of conduct as well as the organisation’s financial and human resources framework.
Introduction to leadership is a pathway to further leadership development programs.
Discovery - A Journey to Leadership (LDP2)
The three day program builds and enhances leadership capabilities and explores:
- Leading self insight into how others see you as a leader, the impact your behaviour has on others and how to leverage your strengths and constructively manage areas of development.
- Leading one on one - enhances the leadership skills required to impact individual team members, clients and key stakeholders.
- Leading teams - refine your skills in leading groups and teams to achieve individual, team and organisation outcomes.
- Leading clients - discover what clients really want from you as a professional service provider.
- Leading the organisation - introduces the concepts of change management and the personal skills to deal with change in an inspiring and effective manner.
Discovery the Possibilities (LDP3)
The third phase of the leadership program allows individuals to focus on their leadership strengths and journeys and provides an opportunity to:
- Reflect on their current leadership
- Share and learn from each others’ leadership journeys
- Enhance awareness of who they want to be as a leader
- Rekindle their passion to be the best leader they can be
Discovery Engagement (LDP4)
A highly interactive program, Discovery Engagement helps in building partnerships and relationships. Through experiential learning and presentation the course focuses on the importance of engaging relationships that deliver exceptional patient centred care.
