Volunteers

Volunteers are an integral part of the care provided by the Mater Hospital. They play a crucial role in our healing ministry and provide that personal touch. Our volunteers enjoy working side by side with our staff, develop camaraderie with other volunteers and have a sense of pride as they donate their time to help others.

A diverse group of people, our volunteers bring a range of skills and experience to the hospital. Whether retired, unemployed or working, there are a variety of ways our patients and the wider community can benefit from your contribution. A wide range of opportunities are available for individuals, professionals and corporations wishing to volunteer.

Volunteer roles include reception desk activities, looking after patients' flowers, delivery of papers and magazines as well as patient escort duties. At the Renal unit volunteers massage the hands and feet of patients and in the pharmacy volunteers assist staff in serving customers. In the Maternity Unit volunteers deliver birth registration papers and Marty Bear, a gift from the hospital to all new mothers.

Whilst LinkAGE volunteers offer friendship and support to residents in aged care facilities. The volunteers develop ongoing friendships with the residents and gain satisfaction from seeing the pleasure their visits bring.

We appreciate any level of commitment from our volunteers and welcome your inquiries.
