Supportive and palliative care

Clinical psychologists

Being diagnosed with cancer can be a stressful time that challenges the individual, their partner and family. We can refer you to a clinical psychologist that can help you get through this difficult time by providing coping strategies.

Dietitians

Some cancers, particularly involving the head and neck or gastrointestinal tract pose special challenges with diet. Our experienced dieticians can provide advice about this if required.

Pastoral carers

At the Mater we see you not as a number, but an individual with varying spiritual needs. For people of all faiths, our pastoral carers are available to provide care and support for your emotional and spiritual well being.

Social workers

Social workers are available to assist patients, their families and carers with personal and practical difficulties.

Support and palliative care team

Supportive and palliative care team members are available to help with a wide range of issues from pain management to rehabilitation services to home care.

Support groups and relaxation

The Patricia Ritchie Centre also liaises with various cancer consumer groups such as Look Good Feel Better, Can Support, BCNA, Encore, the NSW Cancer Institute and The Cancer Council of NSW to provide you with up to date treatment and information and ongoing support/help.
