The Mater's heart, lung and vascular centre provides a comprehensive range of services which facilitate the delivery of advanced techniques in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. In providing this service the heart, lung and vascular centre is supported by the following services:
- Eight-bed Intensive Care Unit.
- Cardiothoracic operating theatre.
- Two recently refurbished angiography suites.
- Allied health services such as radiological and physiotherapy.
- Cardiovascular emergency service. Patients with urgent cardiovascular problems may be referred directly to the 24 hour cardiovascular emergency service by their general practitioner or cardiovascular specialist. The on call cardiologist is immediately contacted, a bed is made available and the patient can be admitted directly to Intensive Care Unit, either by private or ambulance transfer.
