Pre-admission

It is advisable that orthopaedic patients attend the Pre-Admission Clinic so that we can assess and properly prepare them for admission.

Pre-admission appointment

An appointment can be made once a date has been set for surgery by phoning (02) 9900 7494 or by contacting the surgeon's rooms. Alternatively, a telephone pre-admission interview can be arranged for rural or housebound patients.

Joint replacement patients

It is important that joint replacement patients attend the Pre-Admission Clinic before undergoing surgery. If possible, the patient's main support person should also attend the appointment. This is especially important if English is not the patient's first language.

Appointments at the Pre-Admission Clinic last approximately one and a half to two hours. In the clinic an orthopaedic nurse and physiotherapist will check and complete details of the patient's medical history and an admission assessment form. Patients are requested to bring all current hip and chest x-rays and admission documents.
