The Mater provides an extensive Otolaryngology, Ear, Nose & Throat surgical service. This is supported by a large cohort of highly skilled and experienced surgeons who provide services across both major teaching hospitals and the private healthcare sector. Many of these specialists consult from the Mater Clinic which is co-located to the Mater. A number of Mater otolaryngology surgeons have successfully brought the joy of hearing to deaf patients through our Cochlear implant service.
Otolaryngology surgical procedures undertaken include:
- Skull base surgery
- Advanced Otologic surgery
- Cochlear implantation and implantable hearing aid surgery
- Head and neck cancer surgery, which is also carried out by Endocrine Surgeons
- Salivary gland, thyroid and parathyroid surgery
- Snoring and sleep apnoea surgery
- Rhinology and Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS)
- Laser laryngeal surgery and voice disorders
Paediatric Patients
The Mater follows the Department of Health guidelines and has Paediatric Registered Nursing staff employed to care for children undergoing Ear, Nose & Throat surgery.
